"Bonfire Night Ballater, 5 November, '03"
The traditional Bonfire Night celebrated throughout the UK. It recalls the failed attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament - the democratic chambers of the country. This composite image, admittedly but happily rough, was shot, compiled and published on 5 Nov.

"Late Afternoon, South Deeside Road, Ballater"
October '03 sunshine through hazy cloud and reflections on a wet road. Shooting into the sun makes parts of the image artificially dark, including Ballater, parts of which can be seen in apparent silhouette. Looking to Lochnagar and the Coyles of Muick over Ballater. Does anyone else think they see someone waving in the cloud?

"Lochnagar in Snow"
The mountain of Lochnagar looms over Ballater. Here it is shown in the first serious snow of the year (Oct. '03). The shot was taken, framed by trees, from the top of Craig Coillich hill near Ballater.

"Classic View of Ballater"
Shot in Oct. '03 this is the classic view of Ballater from the top of nearby Craig Coillich hill. Ballater can be seen (bottom right) with the River Dee and Golf Course. The view looks towards snowy Cairngorm Mountains (centre).

Shot in August '03 during Victoria Week this picture was taken from opposite Glenmuick Church (left) in central Ballater. Unfortunately for astronomers in summer it doesn't get completely dark at this latitude but in Autumn and Winter the lovely all night glow dies away and it is good to watch the stars again.		 800 x 600 1024 x 768

"Birch trees, Craig Coillich, Ballater"
This image was shot up through the trees at the foot of Craig Coillich hill at Ballater Oct. '03. It features Autumnal Birch trees against a late afternoon sky. The location is close to old curling and fishing ponds - a tranquil spot to visit.

This image gives a sense of the open space and starkness in some parts of the Scottish Highlands. Not strictly in Royal Deeside or Ballater but nearby, this image was shot in October '03 on the way to the Lecht Ski Centre through the Cairngorms National Park. The Park includes Ballater and this area of Strathdon.		 800 x 600 1024 x 768
